Meet the Planning Staff

Kanishk Sharma joined the Maryland Department of Planning as the Director of Planning Data and Research in January 2019. Kanishk has extensive senior management experience in the private and government sectors. Previously, he has worked for large multinational corporations including Lockheed Martin, Deloitte Consulting and Merck and Co. He also supported local, state, and federal agencies including: several departments in Maryland’s Anne Arundel County government; state agencies such as West Virginia’s Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR); New Hampshire’s Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS); Connecticut’s Department of Labor (DOL); Maryland’s Department of Human Resources (DHS); and, finally, at the federal level, the Social Security Administration (SSA), NASA, and the IRS.

Growing up, one of Kanishk’s hobbies was horseback riding including cross-country, obstacle courses and polo events. Another passion is working on cars and engines and he is presently working on fixing his motorcycle, hopefully in time for the riding season this year.
