In the January edition of Planning Practice Monthly, we reported on $7.6 million in new funding issued by Governor Hogan for the Maryland Bikeways program. As part of its FY21 outreach efforts for the program, the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) hosted a webinar on February 25th. If you were unable to participate in the webinar, or wish to review the information presented, it can now be viewed online and the presentation slides can be found on MDOT’s website.

The webinar described grants available for pedestrian and bicycle projects and programming including Maryland Highway Safety Grants, Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP), Safe Routes to School (SRTS), Recreational Trails Program (RTP), Statewide Transit Innovation Grants (STIG), as well as the MDOT Bikeways Program. These grants provide funding for planning, design, and construction of projects that improve walking and biking conditions.

Maryland Bikeways Program grant applications are due Friday, May 22, 2020! MDOT is currently accepting letters of intent (LOI) for Maryland Bikeways project funding on a rolling basis until April 2. Eligible applicants include Maryland local governments, state agencies, metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs), transit entities, non-profit organizations, and federal public lands agencies.
