The Smart Growth Network (SGN) is a partnership of government, business, and civic organizations that support smart growth. Created in 1996, the network has become a clearinghouse for information about smart growth strategies (thus the name, Smart Growth Information Clearinghouse, or SGIC) through the website, Smart Growth Online, which features smart growth-related news, events, research, presentations and publications, including information on grant opportunities, workshops and webinars.
Planning hosts the SGIC website and generates content for it through a cooperative agreement with the Environmental Protection Agency. Much of this involves collecting news items and information from the internet. However, Planning also generates written content and organizes and contributes to webinars at which participants can earn AICP continuing education credit.
Planning supports the SGIC through in-kind contributions that result from our efforts with the website, content production, and the webinar programming. The website is also an opportunity to feature innovative planning in Maryland to a national audience. Because of the cooperative agreement and opportunities provided by the SGIC, we are looking for story ideas, material, webinar concepts and news items to develop, as well as the participation of Planning staff who contribute to the in-kind match.
If you have a story idea or would like to help generate content for the website, please contact Michael Bayer at Michael.bayer@maryland.gov. All ideas and contributions are welcome. Check out the website at smartgrowth.org.
