Deborah “Deb” Sward serves as Lead Geographic Information Systems Planner for the Projections and State Data Center. Her primary responsibility is preparing and mapping Census data for general use, as well as tracking demographic trends in support of specific projects.

Before joining the Maryland Department of Planning, she worked as a consultant environmental planner, mostly managing the NEPA (National Environmental Policy Act) process for infrastructure projects, with an emphasis on analyzing socioeconomic impacts. She has a master’s degree in Urban Studies and Planning from the University of Maryland at College Park. Deb was also an intern at Planning in 2010. When not working, Deb enjoys performing music (lead guitar and vocals) and biking.
