Rob McCord is the new, Acting Secretary for the Maryland Department of Planning. As Secretary, Rob provides comprehensive leadership of the Department’s mission, objectives, and initiatives. Acting Secretary McCord assumed the position following the appointment of Wendi Peters to the position of Special Secretary of Smart Growth. Prior to his recent appointment, Mr. McCord served the Department as the Assistant Secretary of Operations.

Rob comes to Planning with private sector and local government experience and had been serving as the Asst. Sec. for Operations since April of 2015. He was born in Baltimore City and raised in Baltimore and Harford Counties. He worked in a small private practice in Bel Air before joining the Harford County Law Department in 1998 as the Deputy County Attorney then as the County Attorney from 2004 -2014. He has also seen issues from Western Maryland to the Eastern Shore as a trustee on the Local Government Insurance Trust. He is married with two adult children and his interests include astronomy, history and home improvement.
