David Buck worked for the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) for the past 27 years prior to his arrival at the Department of Planning as the Director of Communications.  He was previously MDOT Deputy Director of Communications for one year and Media Relations Manager at the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA), from 2002 to 2016.  He was a Public Information Officer at SHA prior to 2002.   His new responsibilities at Planning include coordination and response to media inquiries, community outreach, marketing, speech writing, event planning, and coordination with the Governor’s Press office.

Mr. Buck began his career at SHA in 1990 as the first operator at SHA’s Baltimore area traffic operations center.  In that capacity, he coordinated information provided to the public regarding road conditions in the Baltimore area.  The growth and success of the first operation centers in the Baltimore Washington area ultimately led to the high-tech Statewide Operations Center, located near BWI.

He is a graduate of Towson University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Public Relations.  He currently resides in Catonsville with his wife Lynda, their seventeen-year-old daughter Alicia, thirteen-year-old son Kevin and dog Bruno.
