Maryland Planning Commissioners Association Regional Workshop in Salisbury on Feb 21

MPCA Corner

In the December edition of Planning Practice Monthly, we asked readers to save the date for a Maryland Planning Commissioners Association (MPCA) regional workshop in Salisbury on February 21. You’ll be glad you did, because the event is shaping up to be an excellent opportunity for regional collaboration, citizen planner education, and networking! The MPCA is partnering with the City of Salisbury and the Institute for Public Affairs and Civic Engagement at Salisbury University (PACE) for a full day (10 a.m. – 3 p.m.) of engaging and informative sessions.

This is the first MPCA regional workshop in 2020. Last year, the organization hosted two workshops, one in Hagerstown and the other in Annapolis. The workshops are an implementation of MPCA’s Strategic Plan and are designed to engage citizen and professional planners at the regional level who might not have been able to attend the fall conference in Aberdeen. The MPCA board, along with Maryland Department of Planning staff and local representatives, will conduct sessions on the following topics:

  • Board Recruitment and Diversity
  • Ethics and Ex Parte Communication
  • Housing in Maryland: Trends and Regional Focus

The workshop will conclude with a regional dialogue, during which participants have the opportunity to interact with and learn from one another about key issues facing their communities and planning boards, share examples of successful local efforts, and consider ways to improve planning coordination across the region. Citizen planners are vital to the quality of life and coordinated development of Maryland’s communities, and the MPCA strives to support their work and education.
